The Critical Care Unit at Mercy Medical Center is a blended unit providing intensive and intermediate care for surgical, medical, cardiac and neurological patients. We utilize pulmonary artery catheters, arterial lines, central venous catheters, cranial intra-ventricular catheters, ventilators, continuous renal replacement therapy and hypothermia post-cardiac arrest. All rooms are equipped for hemodialysis, and we are equipped for negative pressure isolation. Critical Care is located in The Mary Catherine Bunting Center, Mercy’s main hospital which opened in 2010 and includes all private patient rooms, rooftop gardens, and state-of-the-art technology.
The collaborative Critical Care Team includes: Nurses, nursing support, Intensivist Physicians, Nurse Practitioner, Pastoral Care, Social Work, Dietary, Case Management, Respiratory, Rehabilitation Services, and Pharmacy who work closely to ensure communication and positive patient outcomes. We have an all RN staff and a Clinical Nurse Educator. New nurse hires are paired with experienced preceptors, and orientation is customized to each new nurse. The Critical Care leadership team values staff empowerment, shared decision making, education, professional growth and development.
